February 18th 2009

Offering extremely high torque (248 inch-lb) and superior performance, a new 1/2in power drill is designed in a lightweight, ergonomically designed package

Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, has introduced a new 1/2in drill that provides extremely high torque (248 inch-lbs.) and superior performance in a lightweight, ergonomically designed package.

The new BE1020 drill is ideal for joiners, fitters, HVAC installers, carpenters and other users who require a universal tool for drilling both large and small holes in almost any type of wood or metal material.

The BE1020 is also used in pipe beveling and flange facing applications.

The new drill has a 2-speed gearbox that allows the operator to drill large holes in a variety of materials.

The tool is fitted with Metabo’s unique S-automatic safety clutch, which helps protect both the operator and the tool in the case of a jammed bit.

In addition, the tool’s winding protection grid deflects harmful airborne debris away from armature windings, increasing the life of the motor by up to five times over tools without this feature.

The new drill features an electronic carbon brush wear indicator that flashes when the carbon brushes need changing, enabling the user to change them before damage can occur to the motor.

The BE1020 is the only drill in its class to be fitted with Vario-Tacho-Constimatic (VTC) full-wave electronic speed control.

This feature allows the speed of the drill to be set to the relevant material-specific cutting speed, making the tool adaptable for almost any application.

Because the speed selected always remains constant, the tool performs with greater precision and speed, even at the rated load and under harsh conditions.

For extremely accurate drilling, the BE1020 can be used with one of Metabo’s portable drill stands.

The tool is designed for ease of use.

The BE1020 comes in a compact, lightweight (6.9 lb.), pistol-grip style.

A reversing switch is equally available to both right- and left-handed operators, and an extra long side handle increases operator control.

The strain relief on the power cord allows for storage of the chuck key and screwdriver bits.

Drilling capacity for the BE1020 is 5/8in in steel and 1-9/16in in softwood.

The drill has a no-load speed (rpm) of 0-900/0-2,600; an 8.2A motor; and a rated input of 1020W.

Variable torque screwdrives change inserts safely

February 18th 2009

Variable torque screwdrivers, available in different models within the range of 0.1 to 8Nm, make safe, torque-exact changing of inserts possible.

The new, TorqueVario-S variable torque screwdrivers from Wiha make safe, torque-exact changing of inserts possible.

Different models are offered within the range of 0.1 to 8Nm.

The torque value can be set with the provided Torque-Setter adjusting tool.

Unique is the numeric display of the torque value in the window scale, which is integrated in the handle.

Thus reading errors are practically eliminated.

The formed multi-component handle with integrated soft zone fits particularly well in the hand.

Unique also is the handle size concept with a total of four handle sizes, which are optimally designed for a respective torque range.

Colour-coded, continuously through hardened blades of high-quality CVM-steel are a further plus.

In order to protect both the tool and the screw, all torque handles limit the tightening torque as well as applying a special limit to the loosening torque.

This means that when loosening a screw the torque will be limited to a value that is approximately 50% larger than the tightening torque.

When the torque is reached, a clear audible sound and noticeable click indicates the release of the tool.

The mechanical components offer with continuous use, a repeatable accuracy, which extends far beyond the specified standard.

Each tool is inspected and laser-marked by Wiha with a specially developed calibration unit before shipment.

The user can read the results in the accompanying inspection certificate.

The following specifications are fulfilled: EN ISO 6789, BS EN 26789, and ASME B107.14M.

High speed discs offer good surface quality

February 18th 2009

Slots in high speed cutting discs for angle grinders cool the cutting process and produce good surface quality, regardless of the type of material.

The cutting disc for angle grinders is a product of Danish Tool Productions ApS.

The discs are available in four variants, and are suited to all types of materials.

The unique feature of the cutting disc is the inspection slots which make it possible for the user to see what they are working on.

These slots also provide optimal cooling during the actual cutting process, resulting in good surface quality, regardless of the type of material.

The cooling process minimises sparks and significantly reduces the risk of occupational and/or fire hazard.

Since the cutting discs actually shave rather than grinding, there is no dust problem.

Noise is also significantly reduced, since the cut meshes with the material, rather than riding over the top of it.

At around 10,000 rev/min, the new cutting disk is five times faster than normal grinding discs.

Its wide field of application and the possibility of re-sharpening the cutting surfaces makes the disc economical to use.

The cutting disc was originally conceived for cutting hooves on dairy cattle.

But Danish Tool Productions ApS were quick to recognise the many potential applications for the tool.

We have refined the cutting disc, so that we now have four variants, says Otto Mostrup who is responsible for the new tool.

The different versions cover the entire range of needs, and can be used on all materials, from stone, to aluminium, to plastics.

Danish Tool Productions ApS, in Randers, Denmark, is responsible for developing the new cutting disc.

The company was founded in 1989, and today sells tools all over the world.

The new cutting disc is also planned to be introduced onto the world stage.

Production is already underway, and Danish Tool Productions ApS is currently locating international working partners who can sell or manufacture the cutting discs under licence.

Like other products from Danish Tool Productions ApS, the cutting discs will be sold under the Thor trademark.

The disc has a patent application pending.

Tool combines 3/8in and 1/2in drilling in one

February 18th 2009

Power drill that can be used on a variety of materials combines 3/8in and 1/2in drilling in one tool by incorporating a 2-speed gearbox along with variable speed.

Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, has introduced a new drill that combines 3/8in and 1/2in drilling in one tool by incorporating a 2-speed gearbox along with variable speed.

The new BE710 drill is ideal for applications where a universal tool is required to drill both large and small holes, such as in joining, fitting, HVAC installation, and carpentry applications.

The new combination drill can be used on a wide range of materials, including hard and soft wood, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, Plexiglas, fiberglass, and composite materials.

The new BE710 has a reversing feature that provides full torque in reverse.

The reversing switch is conveniently positioned, so it is equally accessible to both right and left handed operators.

Metabo’s S-automatic safety clutch restricts the reverse torque in the event of a bit jam, stopping the tool’s motor and protecting both the drill and the operator.

Variospeed full wave electronic speed control enables the drill’s speed to be infinitely varied from the lowest to highest speed value.

Since the speed reduces with the increasing load, the lower the selected speed, the quicker the tool will come to a stop.

The BE710 also features Metabo’s exclusive winding protection grid that increases motor life by up to five times in dirty environment, by deflecting airborne debris away from the armature windings.

A die cast aluminum housing, which dissipates heat generated during operation, and auto-stop carbon brushes that turn off the motor before the brushes are completely worn out, also help to extend the new drill’s service life.

Maximum tightening torque of the BE710 is 142 in-lb.

Drilling capacity in mild steel is 1/2in and 1-9/16in in softwood.

No-load speed is 0-1,000/0-3,000 and rated input is 710W.

The tool features a 5.8A motor and weighs only 6.5 lb.

A 1/2in geared chuck, chuck key, clamping bushing, and side handle come standard, and an optional carrying case is available.

Nibbler loses weight, but not its capacity

February 17th 2009

An established nibbler has undergone a transformation in that while its weight has been reduced from 11.7kg to 8.3kg, it retains same capacity and speed with improved work visibility.

Trumpf’s proven N700 nibbler has just undergone a transformation.

It retains its 7mm mild steel cutting capacity and high working speed of 1.3m/min but its weight has dropped from 11.7kg to just 8.3kg.

The new, streamlined design allows the operator better visibility of the cutting line and its reduced weight minimises operator fatigue.

So too does the new motor handle that can be adjusted to three different positions to suit the application.

The N700-2 is part of a generation of new Trumpf power tools whose appearance belies their capacity.

A smaller 1600W motor and new gear head with robust planetary gears contribute greatly to its weight saving.

As well as being lighter and more manoeuvrable, the N700-2 has better vibration dampening and improved cutting quality, as the depth of punch is now adjustable.

The new version also provides greater flexibility, as it is able to cut in four directions without changing orientation.

The standard two-position handle is now a tough plastic but for applications where space is at a premium, a slimline steel handle is also provided as standard.

The N700-2 is electrically powered but for those requiring a pneumatic version, the N700-1 is also available from Trumpf.
